Adopted – Serani

Serani is a 20 month old female tortoiseshell and tabby domestic short hair. Serani is Hindi for tigress, and due to her striking markings, we felt it was a very appropriate name.

Serani and her siblings came to us on the day they were born after their mother gave birth during a trap, neuter, release project at a feral cat colony. Unfortunately mum was too dangerous to house safely for her to raise her young. Her newborns were transferred to Little Paws Orphan Rescue. Our mumma cat Athena didn’t hesitate to adopt these newborns and add them to her own litter. Tragedy stuck when the litter was diagnosed with streptococcus which they contracted from their mother during birth.

Serani suffered the loss of her sister Amber at 5 days old and her brother Nelson at 19 days old. Tragedy struck again with the loss of her brother Hercules due to anaesthetic complications during his castration. Finally, her brother Chase was adopted just prior to Christmas leaving Serani as the last member of her family still with us.

Serani is a very sweet and cuddly cat. She is a real chatter box and will often greet you when arriving home to tell you all about her day. Serani enjoys being outside, chasing bugs and creepy crawlies in our enclosed courtyard. At night she curls up on our bed and sleeps next to us. Serani would suit any home that has no other cats (dogs are ok) and can provide her with love and a warm bed. She would be suitable for an older person happily keeping their lap warm.

Serani was originally adopted in October by Rebecca and Justin and their two other cats Tommy and Dustan (also adopted from us). Rebecca fell in love with Serani after only a couple of days, however Tommy and Dustan didn’t really appreciate having an adopted sister come between their brotherly bond. After a month of trying, Serani came home. Unfortunately, she has been rather sad since returning to us. She had a taste of what life is like in a family home rather than the orphanage.
